Sports Massage is a great complimentary treatment to other therapies as well as a complete treatment in its own right. A good sports massage can expedite recovery and compound the benefits of all disciplines of treatment
Stresses and strains on the body accumulate in all of us from time to time, no matter if you lead a sedentary or very active lifestyle. A few examples,
Sitting for many hours at a desk/computer
Excessive digging/pruning in the garden
Training hard for a marathon/getting fit for a charity cycle ride
Stressful driving, with minimal breaks for long periods of time
These activities (although very different) can all upset the bodys fine balance, resulting in stress, pain, stiffness and even injury.
Sports Massage Therapy is an ideal way to help prevent and alleviate these symptoms. Sports Massage is the best method of treatment for relieving tension in muscles and addressing many minor injuries. When used in isolation or in a complementary role to other therapies (e.g. physiotherapy or chiropractic treatments) sports massage can greatly speed recovery.
Our muscles are surrounded by a thin membrane of connective tissue called fascia. This fascia is normally moist, allowing the muscles to glide freely over each other as they contract and relax.

Following repetitive use or injury, this fascia becomes thick and hardens. The muscles are now unable to function efficiently. This can lead to restricted circulation, restricted joint mobility, inflammation of the surrounding soft tissue and pain.
Sports massage techniques warm, relax, lengthen and separate the soft tissue fascia. Break down areas of muscular adhesion and increase/restore full circulation delivering fresh nutrition and removing toxins. As a result, range of movement is improved and pain is reduced. When used correctly, and in conjunction with other methods of treatments as required, the benefits of all disciplines are compounded.
